The term Smart Lipo is commonly used to refer to laser unduced fat melting no matter what type of laser is used. Smart Lipo is actually a trademaked name of Cynosure and refers to laser liposuction done with thier laser. Nonetheless, here at Sculptra we prefer to use Syneron's LipoLite Laser to do help us with fat melting during liposuction. LipoLite Works: Precise Control of Smart Lipo

LipoLite causes fat cells to break apart and be eliminated by the body through non-selective heating of the adipose tissue. The 1064nm Nd:YAG laser energy is delivered via an optical fiber inside a cannula, inserted through a tiny incision to the treatment site.

The thermal energy has the added advantage of tissue tightening via simultaneous photo-stimulation of dermal collagen.

Due to the coagulation properties of Nd:YAG lasers, there is less bruising or bleeding as compared to traditional liposuction for faster recovery.

As a complementary procedure to traditional liposuction, Laser LipoSculpture with LipoLite can treat smaller areas not possible with liposuction.

Two destructive mechanisms happen in Laser LipoSculpture (laser-assisted lipolysis):
1. Photomechanical destruction: LipoLite's ability to deliver short pulses of <150 µsec. with low pulse energy of <250 mJ can overcome tissue resistance in areas of high fibrosis.
2. Photothermal destruction: The ability of LipoLite to deliver long pulses of >750 µsec. with high pulse energy of up to 800 mJ can enhance the thermal destruction of the fat cell membrane.

LipoLite can deliver a range of pulse characteristics, pulse energy up to 800 mJ and pulse duration from 100-800 µsec. enabling the physician to customize treatments for the patient.
